Reader, you’ve spent all this time working through a problem with AI. You’ve written the copy. You’ve designed a new product or service. You’ve rewritten your website about twenty times. You’ve mapped your 5 year goals. And yet you still have not taken any action (in the real world). The busyness trap. You’ve spent all these hours ‘working’ with AI, leveraging this powerful new tool that we have at our disposal and yet you’ve not actually made any progress. You’ve been busy being busy. This was me for months at the start of my maternity leave. I was using AI to help me work out what was next. I was thinking about my ideal client, my offer, my website. Going through all these stages of planning with AI, somewhere along the line I realised that I’d actually just been going round and round in circles and not getting anywhere. Cue the picture of the hamster wheel and imagine me on it for months – this is one of the traps that using AI can create. AI can make you productive or keep you busy. Using any LLM (Large Language Model) Claude (my preferred), Chat GPT, Gemini, Grok etc can be great and really useful for sure. However I realise now with hindset it can also keep you busy and not actually making progress. The tech companies behind AI, like social media, want to keep you on their platform, so it is hugely beneficial to them, for us to be on their platform for longer. Hence why it always asks what is next and what the next task is. Nothing beats action. I fell into this trap, I was planning, I was writing, I was busy but actually when all was said and done I wasn’t making any progress at all. I was busy being busy. How are you using AI? Are you using it to streamline and enhance your productivity or are you like me falling into the trap of being busy being busy? What is one lesson you have learnt while using AI? About the tool or about yourself? Hit reply & tell me how you're using AI or how it is using you? 💛 P.s. There is a documentary I discovered through a podcast that resonated with me. A father to be wanted to find out more about AI, whether he should be scared or excited and embarked on a journey to find out. Through that journey he directed and filmed The AI Doc and has become a self-proclaimed Apocaloptimist. If you want to find out more, check out the doc here. 2. If you are worried about AI or feel like you have no say or voice in how the technology is rolled out and used. Check out the Centre For Humane Technology. 3. And finally, join The Human Movement, to be part of a growing number of people who want their voices to be heard in the AI discussion. |
